Princeton University Takes a Strong Stand Against Sexual Misconduct

Princeton University is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for its students. Title IX Policy and Procedures

The process of enforcing the University’s Title IX policies begins with filing a complaint with the office of the Title IX Coordinator. The assigned coordinator will determine whether the case falls within the bounds of the established policy or if it should be referred to another office for resolution. The student who files the complaint will be known as the “complainant” throughout the investigation, while students facing allegations will be dubbed “respondents.” Once filed, interim measures can be put in place, such as temporary relocation or suspension while an investigative panel convenes.

Investigative panels are made up of three members, who are carefully selected from University staff specifically trained to handle Title IX cases. Rather than conducting hearings like those used for behavioral misconduct, Princeton implements an investigative resolution process. The panel first meets with each party separately before meeting with any relevant witnesses. After gathering pertinent information from these meetings, they draft an investigative report detailing their findings and share it with everyone involved in the case. Each individual can then meet again separately with the panel to discuss any concerns raised by the report or offer rebuttals to claims made by others involved in the process.
